Understanding identity verification (KYC and KYB)
Updated a week ago
Billplz verifies your identity in two stages: individual verification (KYC) to confirm who you are, and organization verification (KYB) to confirm your business is registered and legitimate.
KYC is completed during sign-up. KYB can be completed afterward from your dashboard and is required to unlock card payment payouts.
Individual verification (KYC)
KYC (Know Your Customer) verifies your personal identity during the sign-up process. You'll provide:
- MyKad or passport number: entered on the "Complete your account" screen during sign-up
- Full name: must match your ID document exactly
- Face and document verification: you are redirected to Billplz's secure partner, CTOS, to complete e-KYC. This is an automated check where you photograph your ID and take a selfie so the system can verify they match.
The e-KYC process meets Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) regulatory requirements. Individual verification typically completes within minutes.
Organization verification (KYB)
KYB (Know Your Business) verifies that your business is legally registered. Unlike KYC, KYB is completed separately after your account is created.
Registration details
During sign-up, you provide your organization's registration number. The number type depends on your business structure:
- ROC (Registrar of Companies): for Sdn Bhd, Bhd, LLP, and other incorporated companies
- ROB (Registrar of Business): for sole proprietors and partnerships
- ROS (Registrar of Societies): for registered societies, associations, and NGOs
The organization name you enter must match your registration documents exactly, including suffixes like "Sdn Bhd" or "PLT". The bank account must be in the organization's name, not a personal account.
KYB document submission
To complete KYB, go to Settings > Account Settings > KYB Verification and upload the following three documents:
- Bank Statement: a statement from the past month
- Authorized Signatory: any document showing the authorized person for your organization (e.g., board resolution, SSM Form 49)
- Business Certificate: your SSM registration certificate or equivalent
KYB is complete once all three documents are uploaded and verified by Billplz.
Why KYB matters
KYB verification is required to unlock card payment (Visa/Mastercard) payouts. Without it, card funds remain held and card payments are eventually disabled on your account. See [Card payments: rates, settlement, and compliance] for the full timeline and deadlines.
Verification timeline
- Individual verification (KYC): completes within minutes during sign-up if information matches government records
- Bank account verification: up to 3 business days after sign-up
- KYB document review: 1–3 business days after you submit all three documents
If any verification step takes longer than expected, check your email (including spam) for requests for additional information.
What you can do at each stage
After KYC and bank verification (before KYB):
- Collect FPX payments with no restrictions
- Collect card payments up to the Daily Collection Limit (DCL) of MYR 3,000, with payouts held until KYB is complete
- DuitNow QR activates after approval by Billplz, typically within 3 business days
After KYB verification:
- All held card funds are released and settled to your bank account
- Card payments continue on the normal T+2 settlement schedule
- You can request a DCL revision by contacting team@billplz.com
